On October 1, 2014, the Monument Award of the Upper Palatinate district was presented to the managing directors and initiators of the Hotel Fronfeste.
… the long journey of this project began many years earlier.

When purchased in 2007, the builders were inspired to make a far-reaching decision, namely to preserve this building in a manner appropriate to its monument status, with its very own history, by converting it into the Hotel Fronfeste. A four-year process of planning, approvals, assessments, and reviews of financial feasibility followed. In particular, the challenge of creating a high-quality hotel experience while preserving the structural characteristics almost caused the implementation of this idea to fail several times.

With a great deal of commitment, thousands of hours of personal labor, a well-coordinated team of professionals, and a certain creative persistence, after about two years of construction, the launch of the former prison as “Hotel Fronfeste – Experience History” took place on April 15, 2013.

Since its opening, it has already been able to delight numerous visitors. Whether cyclists or business travelers – the guests of Fronfeste appreciate the responsible handling of the past. This also includes the initiation of an extensive historical review. The considerable amount of research and publication effort has been and continues to be made possible through the investors Gerald Stelzer, Peter Voss, and Thomas Roidl’s own funds, as well as 50 percent funding from the Bavarian State Ministry and ELER.
